Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Bhandara is a premier residential school functioning under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Ministry of Education, Government of India. Established with the vision of providing quality education to talented students predominantly from rural areas, JNV Bhandara stands as a center of academic excellence, discipline, and holistic development in Maharashtra.

2017 was the most auspicious day when the foundation stone of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pachgaon, Bhandara Devendra Fadanvis Chief Minister of Maharashtra . The school campus covers around 27.4 acres of forested hillside with its buildings connected by steep and windy paths and offering spectacular views at every turn. These buildings include the beautiful old Quad, the modern state of art infrastructure and the newly-refurbished student hostels and staff houses. The academic buildings including several classrooms are linked by a computer network. The widespread use of email and an intranet system shrinks the distances and keeps staff, students and administration in quick and easy contact with one another. The Vidyalaya is surrounded by the grove of pine trees.

1) About the School- A Brief History

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, BHANDARA is the part of the extension of the mission started under National Educational Policy (NEP) 1986. District BHANDARA lies in the Vidarbh division of Maharashtra. In olden days it was used to be a great manufacturer of Brass utensil market hub. Even today, it is emerging as a great Brass utensil and steel producing city.

This Vidyalaya is situated in the Mohadi Panchayat of BHANDARA Block of the BHANDARA District. It is 12.5 KM away from the District Head quarter, the seat of the V.M.C. Chairman. Bhandara District is an administrative district in the state of Maharashtra in India. The district headquarters are located at Bhandara. The district occupies an area of 4087 km² and has a population of 1,200,334 (605,520 males and 594,814 females), of which 19.48% are urban as of 2011. It is known as the "District of Lakes". Bhandara has a mixed economy with agriculture, industries and forest resources. Bhandara is known for its large production of rice. Tumsar, a tahsil town, is a noted rice market. Bhandara town is also known as "Brass City" owing to the presence of a large brass products industry. Bhandara has several tourist destinations, like Ambagad Fort, Brahmi, Chinchgad, and Dighodi.

The district is also known for the Ordnance Factory Bhandara of the Ordnance Factories Board, which manufactures products for the Indian Armed Forces. It is located on an estate which is commonly known as Jawahar Nagar colony. This is the only Kendriya Vidyalaya in the Bhandara district. Ashok Leyland, a Hinduja Group Company, has a production facility at Gadegaon near Bhandara. Sunflag Iron Steel Company and Shivmangal Ispat Pvt. Ltd. are other major industrial undertakings in the district.

2) Establishment:

The Vidyalaya was made functional in 08/08/2017 CLASS VI at temporary site at Jakatdar School Bhandara and will be shifted to its permanent site on 15 August, 2019. With the shifting of Vidyalaya in permanent building, it got its basic infrastructural facility. And thus its establishment became very firm. Every activity started on in full swing and day by day the Vidyalaya marched on the path of success creating various mile stones. A few of them are as under:

* First batch of VI class is passed out in 30/03/2021

Since then the academic growth is increasing year after year.

  1. b) Facilities:

* The Vidyalaya is now equipped with 25 KVA Genset, Solar panel, RO system, Steam cooking system, fully furnished class-rooms, computer room, activity room, Smart Room, Samsung Smart Class, Laboratories, CCTV, Digital Classroom etc.

3) GOALS & OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANISATION:

  • The main objectives of the institutional planning are to realize the objectives of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

  • To impart good quality modern education.

  • Enrollment of bright students strictly as per the norms of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

  • Foresight personality development of students.

  • Inculcation of values and spirit of the social service among the students.

  • Implement the co-curricular and extracurricular, physical and health education activities for the talented students.

4) Vision Statement:

By 2020, the Vidyalaya intends to achieve 100% child centered education with effective e-learning and making them self-centered. It also intends to produce 100% quality result every year and ensure appropriate career development and professional achievement to the deserving students.

5) Values and Vignettes:

The Vidyalaya is having noble goals of overall development of the students in academics, co-curricular, sports and games to strengthen the personality of students. Therefore it has been established for the purpose of identification and grooming of the talented and gifted children, mainly from the rural areas. Therefore we want to reach the highest goal of the success. This is the beginning of the year we have to start from the small things but most important thing is that we must unite and give dynamic structure to build the community management of Vidyalaya and nation. Hence the institutional plan is prepared with a view to make it more practical, realistic and goal oriented.

6) Identified outcomes of residential culture of the school. :

The Vidyalaya is situated in the district of the Pune region where a lot of avenues are open to the students. Learning, being in the residential culture facilitates the children to gain balanced mental, physical and social strength.

Every year, the number of candidates appearing for JNVST is increasing. This is due to the fact that society is observing the success and behavior of outgoing students.

After meeting alumni of Vidyalaya, it is observed that, the students become social, confident, and self-reliant and cautious about their health and hygiene. They are co-operative and developed good linguistic ability, learnt the relevance of national integration and respect opposite gender. They are also coming forward to shoulder the responsibility in different walks of life and extend their assistance and resource in various volumes. This, in fact, enables the Vidyalaya to establish its brand.

    Objectives of

    Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti

    • To establish ,endow, maintain, control,and manage schools(hereinafter called the 'Navodaya Vidyalaya') and to do all acts and things necessary for or conducive to the promotion of such schools which will have the following objectives:

    • To provide good quality modern education-including a strong component of culture inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education- to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.

    • To provide facilities, at a suitable stage, for instruction through a common medium, viz., Hindi and English, all over the country.

    • Offer a common core-curriculum to ensure comparability in standards and to facilitate and understand the common and composite heritage of our people.

    • To progressively bring students from one part of the country to another in each school to promote national integration and enrich the social content.

    • To serve as a focal point for improvement in quality of school education through training of teachers in live situations and sharing of experiences and facilities.

    • To establish, develop, maintain and manage hostels for the residence of students of Navodaya Vidyalayas.

    • To aid, establish and conduct other institutions as may be required for the furtherance of the Society's objects in any part of India

    • To do all such things as may be considered necessary, incidental or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objects of the society.

      Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme

      The National Policy on Education-1986 envisaged setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, that would bring out the best of rural talent.

      It was felt that children with special talent or aptitude should be provided opportunities to progress at a faster pace by making good quality education available to them irrespective of their capacity to pay for it. Such education would enable students from rural areas to compete with their urban counterparts on an equal footing; seamlessly assimilating and intefrating them into the mainstream of the society.

      The Navodaya Vidyalaya System which began as a unique experiment, is today unparalleled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target group and the attempt to provide them quality education comparable to the best in a residential school system.

Salient Features of Navodaya Vidyalayas

Reservation of Seats

Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is primarily for children from the rural areas, with provision of at least 75% seats for rural children. Seats are reserved for children from SC& ST communities in proportion to their population in the district but not less than the national average. 27% reservation is provided to the OBC students over and above reservation of SCs& STs. 1/3 of the seats are filled by girl students. 3% of the seats are reserved for disabled children.

Co-educational Residential Schools with Free Education

Navodaya Vidyalayas are affiliated to CBSE and provide free residential quality education to talented children from Class-VI to XII. Entry into Navodaya Vidyalayas is made in Class-VI with lateral entry in Classes- IX & XI. Each Navodaya Vidyalaya is a co-educational residential institution providing free boarding and lodging, free school uniforms, text books, stationery and to and fro rail / bus fare to students. However, a nominal fee @ Rs.600/- per month is charged from the students of Classes-IX to XII as Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi except from the students of following exempted category.

  1. All students from Class-VI to VIII.

  2. All Girl students.

  3. Students belonging to SC Category.

  4. Students belonging to ST Category.

  5. Wards of Below Poverty Line families.

In respect of wards of Government employees other than exempted category, VVN is charged either @ Rs.1500/- per month or actual Children Education Allowance received by the parent per month whichever is less.

Adherence to Three-Language Formula

The Scheme of Navodaya Vidyalayas provides for implementation of the Three Language Formula. The third language taught in Hindi speaking districts is linked to the migration of students. All Navodaya Vidyalayas follow the Three Language Formula i.e. Regional language, English and Hindi.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction will be mother-tongue/regional language upto VII or VIII Class. Thereafter the common medium would be Hindi/English in all Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Promotion of National Integration

Navodaya Vidyalayas aim at inculcating values of national integration through migration scheme. Migration is an inter-regional exchange of students between Hindi and Non-Hindi speaking districts, which takes place for one academic year in Class-IX. Efforts are made to promote better understanding of the unity in diversity and to develop and promote understanding of the rich cultural heritage through various activities.

Location of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

Navodaya Vidyalayas are located in rural areas across the country. For the setting up of a Navodaya Vidyalaya, the State Govt. has to provide cost free land for construction of school building at permanent site and rent free temporary building.
